Case Study – Geraldine

MANAGING BACK PAIN & MOBILITY

Geraldine first injured her back many years ago after slipping on a wet surface. Although the initial injury settled, she continued to experience recurring back problems that affected her comfort and day-to-day activity. After someone recommended me, Geraldine came in to see whether massage therapy could help her manage her symptoms.

“The issues with my back had never really gone away. Then someone recommended Mark to me, and I haven’t looked back since.”

Staying active is particularly important to Geraldine. She has volunteered extensively with British Swimming and enjoys swimming, walking, and cycling, so being able to move comfortably and maintain her mobility matters. Geraldine also sees a chiropractor and uses massage therapy alongside this to manage her back.

“Between them, they keep me on the straight and narrow! As a sports volunteer, I need to be reasonably fit for what can sometimes be long daily, weekly or weekend sessions. I don’t think I could manage it without the help.”

Geraldine usually comes to see me every four to six weeks, depending on how she is feeling. We tailor her treatment to what we find on the day, rather than following the same routine at every appointment. Alongside massage therapy, we have also looked at stretches and exercises that she can use between appointments to help maintain her movement.

“Mark has given me stretches and exercises to do as well, around the massage therapy. These additional things have really helped me to maintain my mobility and fitness.”

Geraldine continues to lead a very active life. She swims regularly and also enjoys walking, cycling and spending time with her family.

“I’m a very active person and couldn’t be happier with what Mark has done for me. I swim regularly and, when I’m not, I walk, cycle, and spend time with my family. I can live the life I want. I would definitely recommend Mark; in fact, I already have.”
