Is massage therapy covid safe?

Please see my Covid-19 page for information on massage therapy during this pandemic.

What will the initial session involve?

When we first meet, we’ll first of all complete an initial assessment form. This covers personal details and medical history. We will then discuss any issues you may be experiencing and I will carry out relevant assessments using a combination of specific techniques, depending on your needs.

What do I need to wear for a treatment?

Please make sure you wear loose fitting clothing, as I will need to access the muscles that require treating. You will be covered with a towel to keep you warm with only the area being treated left exposed.

Which therapy is best for me?

I offer a range of different therapies which help with different problems. When we have our initial assessment, we can discuss your needs then and find the best course of treatment for you.

What if I fall asleep during my massage treatment?

It’s fine to fall to asleep, and there’s no need for you to stay awake. In fact it’s quite common for people to drift off during a treatment. Massages can be very relaxing, so this is perfectly normally, and your body and muscles will still be gaining benefit from the massage even if you are asleep.

Will there be any side effects after my massage?

A small number of people may feel achy or have a headache after massage therapy. This is due to the toxins that have been released from your muscles. Any symptoms like this are perfectly normal and should pass within 24 hours. It is also common for your muscles to feel tired or heavy, the same as they may feel after a workout.

It is also possible that you can feel quite emotional. Being deeply relaxed can allow for emotions to surface. If this does happen during treatment, feel free to discuss this with me if you feel comfortable.

Is massage therapy painful?

We are all different and we all experience pressure quite differently. Whilst some people may look for a deep tissue massage, others will prefer a more relaxing gentler touch. Sensitivity can differ from client to client, and what feels like deep pressure for one person could be too light for another.

This is where it’s important to understand what your needs are and for us to discuss the best therapy for you. We will need to communicate during the session. I will be using a variety of techniques, so I will need to understand what pressure to use.

Massage therapy shouldn’t be painful, however it’s normal to feel some discomfort during deep tissue techniques when they are applied to tight or strained muscles.

Who can have a massage?

Absolutely anyone can have a massage. If you’re in any pain, are stressed or suffering from anxiety, you have poor posture, you’re lacking energy or you just want to be more relaxed, massage therapy can help. Whatever your needs, get in touch so we can discuss the right treatment for you.

Can I talk during my session?

It is absolutely fine to talk. Massage therapy is there to make you feel better. If you’d like to talk, feel free. However, you may find that as the therapy progresses, you become more relaxed and don’t want to talk. Whatever works for you is fine by me.

Whilst you may not want to talk generally, communication about your treatment is very important. I may ask questions to make sure you’re comfortable, and if you feel discomfort at any point, it’s really important you tell me.

Can I claim on my private health care or health cash plan?

Every plan is different, so it is best to contact your policy provider. Your treatment cost maybe covered.

How many sessions will I need?

Every person and every problem is different, and the treatment will be individual to each person’s needs. During our initial assessment, when we discuss your needs, we will be able to explore how many sessions you need or would like.

I have an existing medical condition, can I still have a treatment?

This is dependent on the medical condition. In some circumstances you may need a letter from a doctor or consultant before having a treatment. Please contact me to discuss your requirements. If I cannot carry out a treatment, I will explain why.

I have a recent injury, can a treatment be given straight away?

This all depends on the nature of the injury. Please contact me so that we can discuss this in more detail. I will then be able to advise you on the best course of action.
